Developing identified talent

The Academy of Sport Program enables students with an identified talent in a particular sport the opportunity to further develop their skills and their understanding of of their chosen sport. Launched in 2000, the program is offered as an elective within the Key Learning Area of Health/Physical Education to students in Years 9 and 10.  Content taught covers all aspects of the chosen sport, such as: skill development, diet, goal-setting, flexibility, training, strength programs, psychology and administration.

Some additional practice sessions may occur outside of the student timetable such as before and after school or during lunchtimes.

The sports offered may vary according to demand and include: Australian Rules Football, Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Rowing, Soccer, Swimming/Surf Lifesaving and Tennis.

Entry Criteria:
  • Proven ability in the nominated sport
  • Proven ability to work successfully within the wider community both behaviourally and academically
  • A sound achievement in all subjects.
  • Availability for school sporting commitments
  • Willingness to promote both their sport and the College in all areas
  • Willingness to complete the community service components of the program
