Re-programs

At the heart of Religious Education for Emmanuel College is Awakenings, the core document for religious learning in the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat. Awakenings informs and colours the entire curriculum at Emmanuel College from Year 7-12. A rigorous, highly developed and professional program, Awakenings seeks to educate the entire student spiritually, intellectually and ethically according to Catholic Tradition.

The Religious Education Program acknowledges and is sensitive to the students’ differing stages of personal development, faith development and their corresponding responses.

At the heart of Religious Education for Emmanuel College is Awakenings, the core document for religious learning in the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat.  Awakenings informs the entire curriculum of Emmanuel College. 

  • Each of the units of work run for one semester and the students are required to complete a unit each semester from Year 7 – 12.
  • Year 7 students become familiar with the stories of some of the great figures from Hebrew Scriptures and explore how the Catholic Church has developed since its foundation.
  • Year 8 students deepen their awareness of how God influences their lives and the uniqueness of each person.
  • Year 9 students reflect on Christian discipleship following the model of Jesus Christ and contemplate their own relationships with family and peers.
  • Year 10 students undertake V.C.E. Unit 1, Religion and Society, which examines how religious traditions foster the identity of individuals and groups.
  • Year 11 students study V.C.E. Unit 2, Ethics, which investigates morality and ways of approaching decisions in a discerning way.
  • Year 12 students may choose to study V.C.E. Unit 3 & 4, Religion and Society, or the College based unit Search for meaning.
